Jon Solaun Yagüe (Sola), Bilbao 1987.
Jon Solaun Yagüe — known as Jon Sola — is a Spanish visual artist and educator based in Singapore. His work reflects on the delicate balance between creation and daily life, exploring themes of presence, care, and transformation.
In 2023, he began the creative project Kostaldeko Bizitza, where the line between land and sea became a metaphor for the fragile space between parenting and creativity — a tension both tender and transformative.
In 2024, together with artist Ainhoa de Sola, he co-founded Atelier Sola, a space where art and life intertwine. Their ongoing project Las Horas Despiertas (“The Wakeful Hours”) continues the dialogue begun in Kostaldeko Bizitza, celebrating the fertile, fragmented moments of creation that emerge amid caregiving and routine.
Guided by a sensitivity to place and atmosphere, they design site-specific installations and creative projects that respond to the environment in which they unfold. Each exhibition becomes an evolving landscape — shaped by light, rhythm, and material — where the work grows in dialogue with the space itself, inviting viewers into a shared experience of presence and transformation.
In his recent body of work, painting becomes an intimate reflection of balance — between artistic impulse and family life, between sea and land, stillness and movement. Colour and gesture arise as acts of intuition, emotion, and renewal.
In parallel with his studio practice, Jon teaches Art and Design to IGCSE and A Level students, drawing inspiration from the Reggio Emilia philosophy and its belief in the “hundred languages of children.” His commitment to creative inquiry extends to his work as a consultant and facilitator for Reggio-inspired programmes in Asia and Europe.
He lives and works in Singapore, continuing to explore the spaces between teaching, artmaking, and life itself.
